This season, the UMBC Baseball Team is one to watch. The team has a strong lineup of pitchers, including ace pitcher Steve Schrader. Catcher: Matt Ferrer – A senior from Ellicott City, MD, Matt is a solid Defensive Player with a strong arm. He calls a great game and is also one of the team’s best hitters.

One position that is particularly loaded with talent is catcher. The team has three players who are capable of starting behind the plate, and they all bring something different to the table.

Junior Nick Naumann is the incumbent starter, and he is coming off a strong 2018 season in which he hit .288 with four home runs and 26 RBI. He has good power for a catcher and does a nice job handling pitchers.

Sophomore Josh Dickerson emerged as a quality backup last season, hitting .254 with two home runs and 11 RBI in limited action. He is a very good defender with a strong arm, and he could push Naumann for playing time this season.
