The 2018 Purdue baseball roster is here! This year’s team looks to be very strong, with a mix of veteran leaders and young up-and-comers. On the pitching side, the staff is led by senior ace Michael McCollum, who has been a key part of the rotation for the past few years. The bullpen looks to be very strong as well, with a mix of experienced arms and promising young talent.
Offensively, the Boilermakers are led by senior first baseman and team captain Evan Warden. Warden has been one of the top power hitters in the conference for the past few years, and he will be looking to continue that trend this season. The rest of the lineup is filled out with a mix of speed and power, which should make for an exciting season of Purdue baseball!
The 2018 Roster: A Quick Overview
The 2018 season is quickly approaching, and with it comes a new crop of Purdue Boilermakers to take the diamond. Here’s a quick overview of the team’s roster:
Grant Johnson – A redshirt senior, Johnson is a tall right-hander who missed all of last season with an injury. He’ll be looking to make an impact in his final year with the Boilermakers.
Nick Dalesandro – A junior transfer from Indian Hills Community College Dalesandro is a versatile player who can pitch and play in the outfield. He’ll be an important piece for the Boilermakers this season.
Dakota Mathis – A freshman left-hander, Mathis was a highly-regarded recruit who choose Purdue over several other schools. He’ll look to make an immediate impact on the team.
Mikey Sellers – A senior captain, Sellers is a dependable infielder who has started every game over the last two seasons. He’ll be a key leader for the Boilermakers this year.
Evan albert – A sophomore third baseman, Albert showed promise as a freshman and will look to build on that this season.
Alex Wright – A junior transfer from Heartland Community College Wright is a speedy outfielder who will add some much-needed depth to the position.
Bryce Brockway – A senior, Brockway is a versatile player who can play all three field positions He’ll provide valuable experience for the team this season.
Hunter Mason – A freshman, Mason was another highly-regarded recruit who choose Purdue over several other schools. He has the potential to be a key contributor for the Boilermakers this season.
The infield is a critical part of any baseball team and the 2018 Purdue Boilermakers are no exception. This year’s team will be relying on a mix of experience and youth to anchor the infield, with seniors Stephen Vidmar and Nick Dalesandro leading the way.
At first base, Vidmar will be looking to build on his strong 2017 campaign in which he hit .290 with 5 home runs and 30 RBI. Dalesandro, who will man second base, is a versatile player who can also contribute on the offensive end; he hit .246 last season with 2 home runs and 17 RBI.
Shortstop Connor Marshall will be one of the key leaders on defense for the Boilermakers, while fellow senior Jacson McGowan returns at third base after hitting .275 with 4 home runs and 30 RBI last season.
Rounding out the infield is freshman catcher Ethan Hopkins, who comes to Purdue from Carmel, Indiana. Hopkins was a highly-touted recruit who should make an immediate impact for the Boilers behind the plate.
The Purdue Baseball Team will have a new look in the outfield this season, with several new faces joining the squad. The Boilermakers have added speed and power to the outfield, and they will be looking to make an impact on both sides of the ball.
Leading the way in the outfield is junior college transfer Alex Delaney, who was named a JUCO All-American last season. Delaney will be joined by fellow Junior College transfers Jared Poland and Andres Gutierrez, who will provide some much-needed power to the lineup. Freshman Luke Goodrum rounds out the group, and he will be looking to make an immediate impact as well.
The Purdue baseball team has announced its pitching staff for the 2018 season. The Boilermakers will have 13 pitchers on their roster, including two left-handers.
Headlining the staff is senior right-hander Tanner Andrews, who was named a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball News. Andrews was also named a second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and a third-team All-American by D1Baseball.com. He is coming off a stellar junior campaign in which he went 10-4 with a 2.87 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched
Other key returners for the Boilermakers include junior righty Gareth Stroh, who went 7-4 with a 4.25 ERA last season, and sophomore lefty Ross Massey, who appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen as a freshman and posted a 3.86 ERA.
Rounding out the pitching staff are senior righty Gabe Bierman, junior righty Michael Sellers, sophomore righty Brandon Krieg, junior righty Connor echols-Luper, sophomore lefty Braden Giroux, freshman righty Harry Jadue, freshman righty Dylan Williamsen, freshman righty Jaret Koinzan and freshman left Trenton Mandelson.
The Catchers are an important part of the team, they help to lead the defense and make sure everyone is on the same page. They also contribute offensively with their batting. The 2018 Purdue Baseball roster is:
Purdue baseball is excited to announce its Coaching Staff for the upcoming 2018 season!
Head Coach Mark Wasikowski enters his first season at the helm of the Boilermakers, after spending the past five seasons as an Assistant Coach at the University of Oregon Prior to his time with the Ducks, Wasikowski served as an assistant coach at Purdue from 2003-2008.
Assistant coaches Kevin Wirth and Gabe Bierfeldt will also be joining Wasikowski on the sidelines this season. Wirth comes to Purdue after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University while Bierfeldt returns to his alma mater after serving as hitting coach at Liberty University last season.
The Boilermakers will play their first game on February 16 when they host Wright State

The long-awaited 2018 Baseball Roster is here, and Purdue is looking to build on last year’s successful season The Boilermakers are bringing back a strong core of players, including All-Big Ten First Team selection Alec Olund and Second Team selections Dave Gehring and Ross Learnard. Purdue also welcomes back senior captain Sean McHugh, who missed all of last season with an injury.
Purdue returns all but two pitchers from last year’s squad, so the pitching staff should be a strength once again. The Boilers will look to ace Kyle Wood to anchor the rotation, after he posted a 3.03 ERA in 2017. Senior Nick Dalesandro and junior Tanner Andrews will also be key contributors on the mound.
