Pace Academy Baseball is a winning tradition Our team has been successful for many years, and we continue to strive for excellence. Our players are dedicated to the game and work hard to improve their skills. Our coaches are experienced and know how to develop a winning team We are committed to providing a positive, competitive environment for our players and families.

Introduction

Pace Baseball tradition can be traced back to 1967 when the varsity team won its first state championship Since then, the program has won 18 state titles, including 15 in the last 25 years. The team has also been nationally ranked on multiple occasions, most recently finishing the 2017 season ranked No. 14 in the country by perfect game USA.

The Early Days

The Pace Academy varsity baseball team has a long and rich tradition of success, dating back to the early days of the program. The team was founded in the late 1800s, and play their home games at the historic Pace Academy Field. The team has won numerous championships over the years, including three state titles and one National Championship

The Golden Era

From the 1950s-1970s, Pace Academy Baseball was one of the most dominant teams in the state of Georgia. With a winning percentage of .702, the team won 8 State Championships and 13 conference championships during this time period. The team was known for its strong pitching staff and its ability to manufacturing runs. Many of the team’s players went on to have successful careers in Major League Baseball

The Modern Era

Since the early 2000s, Pace Academy baseball has enjoyed a renaissance, thanks in part to the hiring of Head Coach Kevin Kelley. The team has seen unprecedented success in recent years winning multiple state championships and regularly finishing in the Top 10 in the nation. Coach Kelley’s unique approach to the game, which emphasizes small ball and putting the ball in play, has been a key to the team’s success.

Since the founding of Pace Academy in 1958, our varsity Baseball Team has won 12 State Championships and been ranked nationally 3 times.

Notable Players

Some of the most notable alumni include:

–Joe Morgan class of 1963. Considered one of the greatest second basemen in Major League Baseball history. Morgan was a 10-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, and the National League MVP in 1975.

–Roger Clemens class of 1982. One of the most dominant pitchers in MLB history. Clemens was a seven-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion. He was also named the American League MVP in 1986.

–Chipper Jones class of 1990. Jones is widely regarded as one of the best third basemen in MLB history. He was a 10-time All-Star, won the NL batting title in 2008, and was named the NL MVP in 1999.

Notable Coaches

Since its founding in 1958, Pace Academy has had a rich tradition in baseball. Many talented coaches have come through the program, leaving their mark on the team and the school. Here are just a few of the most notable coaches in Pace Academy history.

coach John Matthews was at the helm of the Pace Academy baseball program for 28 years, from 1970 to 1998. During his tenure, the team won 12 State Championships and was ranked #1 in the nation by Baseball America in 1992. Matthews was named National High School Coach of the Year in 1992 and was inducted into the Georgia baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.

Chuck Gibson began coaching at Pace Academy in 1999 and led the team to four State Championships in his six years at the helm. Gibson was named National high school Coach of the Year by USA Today in 2004 and was inducted into the Georgia Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Keith Snyder took over as head coach of Pace Academy Baseball in 2005 and led the team to three state championships in his nine years at the helm. Snyder was named National high school Coach of the Year by USA Today in 2009 and 2010, and he was inducted into the Georgia Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

The future of Pace Academy’s baseball team is very bright. With a winning tradition, strong coaching, and amazing players, the team is poised to continue their success for years to come.
