The Roots Picnic
The 9th annual Roots Picnic took over Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing this past Saturday. As expected, the always-eclectic lineup delivered a day filled with good vibes and great music.
Hosted by The Roots (the legendary hip-hop band that is currently the house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), this year’s picnic featured performances from some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, including Usher, Erykah Badu, A$AP Rocky, and Future. There was also a special performance by Dave Chappelle, who joined The Roots on stage for a few minutes of stand-up comedy.
As always, the picnic was more than just a concert – there was also a wide array of food trucks and vendors selling everything from kombucha to ice cream, and a “Silent Disco” where party-goers could put on headphones and dance to their own soundtrack.
All in all, it was another successful year for the Roots Picnic, which just goes to show that there’s still plenty of life left in the nearly 10-year-old event.
